Pillaging and other missions

It was very hot today. According to the thermometer on the car, it reached 42c. We loaded into the car, and headed off to pillage with some special items in mind.

We had seen an SOS from Cat Haven. Many of the cats there have been suffering from heat stress. They requested, pleaded for ice packs to give the cats some relief from the heat. We got three long gel packs, and three smaller re freezable ice packs. Then picked up some kitten food, and a nice big bag of adult cat food. I called Cat Haven to make sure they would be open by the time we got there, as it was later than we expected. I was told they would stay after hours if need be. So, off we went, and dropped needed items off.

And, I didn’t come home with a bundle of purr.

Then off to dinner with Mother in law. It actually was rather pleasant. Maybe I should have said something years ago

To say it's a scorcher is understatement

Currently it's 39.3c. Been hanging clothing out on the line to day, and one load is pretty much dry when the next one is ready to go out. After three loads out there, I'm feeling the heat. And that's with going out with a big floppy straw hat and sunglasses. Portable shade.

Can't use the pool yet, needs one more day of algae treatment (only the slightest bit of green,) so, staying indoors. Not really a hardship. 27c feels so cool and comfy when it 40c outside. Perspective is a wonderful thing.

With the heat comes a headache?

Was outside taking off crumbling pool cover (the Aussie sun pretty much toasted the one I got last year, turning it brittle) and noticed that rain water had managed to leak in. There was a bit of green on the bottom. 1.5 liters of cheap household bleach, hosing out of the filters in the pump, and using the gadget I rigged to vacuum the bottom. It's looking pretty good, still needs a bit more bottom vacuuming.

When I started watering the potted plant I started getting a twinge, then it decided to whether or not to become full blown headache possibly a migraine. *sigh* I decided not.

Peek a boo!

Layered image. Wing was my gracious model. Just wish he would smile. He either gives me a deadpan look, or a very goofy face. :)

Most interesting Dental appointment I've every had

Went back for part 2 of my root canal treatment. Upon arrival, I was told I could put my bike in the staff room because bike lock wouldn't fit around the post.

Sat down and waited. One of the dental assistants came out to tell the receptionists that the computers weren't working. That some odd line of words then nothing. Me, being a bit of a techonerd, asked "Did it say something about a boot disc?" She wasn't sure. I got up, went to the machine in question, looked at the screen, then gave the machine the three finger salute (ctrl/alt/del) and pressed F2. Looked over the boot order in the bios. Did a little tweaking, presssed F10, and restarted.

One working computer coming right up. Somehow, the boot order had been scragged.

And for my efforts: I didn't get charged for this dental visit. :D

Who says the barter system isn't still alive and well.

What I learned last night

I was in bed reading ebook on my tablet. I checked email and followed a link to a video of a cat talking to his human.

I found out video of kitteh 'talking' to his human on my android tablet sets off both Ziggy and Loki.. to the point of growling, prowling and raised hackles. And leaves Ziggy looming like a gargoyle on top of my wardrobe, and Loki's neck stretching out like E.T.s

A most productive photoshoot

D was a great model, and was wonderful to direct. Spent the past few days going through all the photographs. Discounting test shots and duplicates ("Let's do that again, but move your arm about 5 degrees upwards", "Let's try that one with you looking to the left instead.") I ended up with 29 photographs out of 68.

The series, Modern Antiquity, came out even better than I had hoped. I sent full sized watermarked images to D to use in his portfolio, should he so choose to.

Le sigh

Well, the book with my first photo published by international, worldwide publication arrived today. Yay.

Too bad it has a really crappy caption on it. They changed it and even Alan said the new one sucked. Oh well, at least I can honestly say "I've been published." heh

This was my original with my caption:

They recaptioned it with:

"Whoah! I have to admit- that is DEFINITELY a huge spider! Okay, okay, calm down now...and bring me your shotgun."

So, yay for published phone. Boo Hiss for bleh recaptioning.

But at least I do have a photo credit in the book, with link to my photo site. So, silver lining! :D

Now he understands

I tried to tell Wing several times yesterday, that there was no need to do and get everything yesterday.

But did he listen to me? No

Is he now in a great deal of pain because of 6+ hours of walking around? Yes.

And on a slightly 'now he gets a clue' side, now he knows how I felt when he 'walks me into the ground' , especially after I had been recovering from two different surgeries. Ain't karma a bitch?

Oh yeah, and my legs still feel like lead. But unlike him, I praise the discovery of ibuprofen in its many incarnation and will use it. So, I will be fine for the hectic-ish day ahead. (Can't wait for Monday/Tuesday. It's my weekend)

Exercise and Civic Duty, all in a morning bike ride

Loki woke me up around 7am, which was good. I got dressed, put hair ties in (biker style, one ever4 inches down ponytail) grabbed helmet, keys, and headed out for my morning ride.

Who knew I would end up performing a civic duty.

Saw a guy arguing with girl across the street, and when she tried to walk around him, he would push her, hold her, get in her way, condescendingly patting her on her head.
She kept trying to shove HIM away and couldn't because he would grab her arms and hold her.

I watched to make sure, and then I bellowed "Let her go, or I am calling the cops!" and held up my phone

He got all cutsie, and held his hands up like "I surrender" and she walked quickly past him.

Then I pissed him off by shepherding them until she got in her car, closed the door, started it up and left his sorry ass there.

I also took his pic with my phone, not that it's all that great a photograph, but HE didn't know that.

Why is it all the cars going by, not one stopped to do what I did, but they all slowed down to watch the show? It took an over 50 woman on a push bike to do something about it.

Dear Ebay Seller

Yes, I know that the screen protector sent with the hardshell camera case was 'free gift'. That being said, if you send screen protector for a Sony Cybershot when the item ordered was for a Canon Powershot, don't come off all shocked and shaken when I send you a message that you screwed up. And don't try to say "Well it was free". Yes, and that itty bitty item was what decided me to buy your camera case instead of your competitors.
