This video clip needed a sound track.

I present a remix:

Kitten vs Dog, Mortal Kombat!

'Star Trek' TV director dies

PALM DESERT, California (AP) -- Joseph Pevney, who directed some of the best-loved episodes of the original "Star Trek" television series, has died. He was 96.

Pevney died May 18 at his home in Palm Desert, said his wife, Margo.

Pevney directed 14 episodes of the 1960s series, including "The City on the Edge of Forever," in which Capt. Kirk and Spock travel back in time to the Depression, and "The Trouble With Tribbles," in which the starship Enterprise is infested with cute, furry creatures.

Pevney loved the series, said his son, Jay.

Oh NOES!

Oh NOES! I am a jihadi supporter! You can tell by my SCARF! Please! Hide me from Moonbat Malkin and her drones!

Oh yes, I am just so worried

Pardon me while I slide out of my chair laughing.

I guess Moonbat* Malkin should confess she is a jihadi supporter now?

'Journalist' Michelle Moonbat Malkin raised a stink about the new Dunkin Donuts ad. Rachel Ray is holding a cup of brew, and wearing a paisley patterned scarf around her neck. Moonbat jumped on this, saying it was proof this was a terrorist supportive ad! :o

Moonbat Malkin got all her drones upset about this, to the point that Dunkin Donuts pulled the ad. And even now some of the jackasses who fed this frenzy of stupidity have demanded that Rachel Ray apologise for wearing the paisley scarf.

Then one of McCains kids was photographed wearing the same sort of scarf. Moonbat and her herd didn't squeak one little bit. Where is the outrage that was so abundant when Rachel was wearing a paisley scarf.

And here we have Moonbat Malkin herself.

Malkin may need to start a boycott of herself. Here is Moonbat Michelle in possession of the dreaded “jihadi” chic. Can we get her readers to flood her inbox with messages accusing her of sympathizing with the terrorists?

*Moonbat is Malkin's invented word for insulting anyone who isn't a Bushite, or 'compassionate conservative')

Isn't this so nice of Pope Palpatine the First

THE Vatican has issued its most explicit decree so far against the ordination of women priests, punishing them and the bishops who try to ordain them with automatic excommunication.

The Church said it cannot change the rules banning women from the priesthood because Christ chose only men as his apostles. Church law states that only a baptised male can be made a priest. Proponents of women's ordination say Christ was only acting according to the social norms of his time.

I love this reasoning, as it was the Catholic church that decreed that all the female followers of Christ were to be written out even though in the book of Luke, he clearly makes statements about female followers of Christ, and that 2000 yrs ago, women were little more than brood mares.

I see a lot of people telling this symbol of the fossilized religion called Catholicism to fuck off, and then 'migrating' over to Protestant, Methodist, Episcopalian etc.

This will piss off most of the photographers on my F-list

Some guy over on RedBubble has been culling photographs from the net, and are claiming them as his own. He wasn't linking to the originals, showcasing them, but accepting kudos and accolades for such wonderful photographs.

I have since contacted RedBubble admin and have turned the guy in.

And he wonders why (danger, Rant ahead!)

Over the past several months, every time Alan and I have planned some sort of introduction dinner/lunch with his girlfriend,
aikidomayland
has found some reason to miss it, or dismiss it. Last time, he said he would drop me off at the restaurant, and I could have lunch with Alan and Mel, while he would see his mom. It usually something else parents/mother/go to the gym, anything. Just about anything I want to do, he finds some way, reason, excuse to not be there.

Now I did tell him Monday last week that Mel would be having dinner here this week. I told him it wouldn't be on Tuesday or Thursday. I asked him to get the dining room table cleared of his fletching jig, and the other arrow making items. He had over a week to do so, but he chose not to. I took a whole 15 minutes and cleaned it up after he complained this morning that I didn't tell him when. I told him that maybe if he hadn't pulled his above mentioned stunts one time too often, I wouldn't have told him the exact time and date.

Then he started in on how the house was a mess (this after I have been for the past three weeks, since ENJO party cleaning, mopping etc etc). I can't do long stretches at a time (15 minutes, then I have to take a break because my back stiffens up), but the dining area is clean, including mopped floor, as is the kitchen, entry way, etc. He has bought into his mothers' comment that since he works, he is exempt in cleaning up, even after himself.

Perth Cityscape Panoramic

Taken from across the Swan River, high up in Kings’ Park.

The scudding clouds, the light metering kept changing almost every nano-second. Because of this, the color hue didn’t match in all three pictures that I had deliberately taken to make a panoramic scene.

So, I desaturated all three images, and tweaked the contrast/brightness until they all matched, and this was the result.

Photo Shoot Sunday

Headed to King's Park, to do a "30 Years Later" session with aikidomayland.  We have a series of photographs that were taken of him when he was about 12 yrs old in King's Park. We got it almost right, the 'after' shots but we had forgotten to bring the original photos. The photographs themselves are fine, but we are slighting off on getting his position right.  We will scan the original pictures, and bring them next time.

Took some pics that have to be 'stitched' together to make a proper panoramic image of Perth from King's Park overlook.  Got some other good ones, but too tired to muck about with them right now.

Went down to the Swan River, and took some action shots of the jet skiers. I got a helluva good show when some guy, seeing the camera set up, with the tripod and me swiveling around tracking them for good action shots, and decided to get cutsie and show off. Well, showing off tends to end badly, and this was no exception.

Much sniggering was heard from the all along the shoreline.

List of home repairs/maintenance

In order of priority:

These are the four major things.

  • 1: gutters need to be cleaned and repaired

  • 2: Dry rot on the front of the house. If we don't get that fixed, we could be looking at huge remodeling bill for the front of the house.

  • 3: Dry rot on the battens and crosspieces. Whoever installed the shade cloth only painted the parts you could see when standing on the ground. Water soaked, then dry rot.

  • 4: Gate and fence. The posts are rotting in the ground. Need to have it replaced.

Need to get done, but not immediately needed:

  • Fly screens on front windows and on screen doors.

  • Spray hose for kitchen sink. (The new tap is too low for me to fill stock pots, or to wash them after they have been used)

  • Removal of yard waste, front and back yards.

  • Mulch front yard.

Cosmetic but needed:

  • Moulding above the bookcase and woodstove needs to be replaced

  • Ceiling needs to be painted to cover water stains after gutters are repaired and cleaned.

And that's just the start. The outside wood and wrought iron could use a fresh coat of paint, after a good cleaning. aikidomayland is going to get a crash course as to what being a home owner entails. Heh

Just for giggles

Yesterday, while looking for one thing, I found something else. The brass bow sight (in mint condition with pins, spacers, instructions including the screws to attach it to the bow) that we had gotten with one of our vintage bows. I noticed on the box it has a very low price, and checked instruction sheet. Spotted the manufacturers name, and decided to look it up to see how old the bow sight was.

Was made in 1953. Does that qualify it as an antique?

The diagnosis from "Hire A Hubby" Russell

The gutters need cleaning and repair. Russell cleared and patched the area that was dumping water into the kitchen, and will be back later to finish it, as he is fully booked for the next 10 days.

Also had him take a look at repairing some dry rot, and other minor repairs (will get estimates). aikidomayland has to learn, being a home owner doesn't mean you just own a house. You have to repair it, and do maintenance every once in a while. He let a lot of these things go for so long, that they need overhauling. I have notebook with list of things that need to get done. Plan on crossing them all off in good order.

Shove your "I will veto this bill", Bush!

Modernized GI Bill passes, despite opposition from McCain, Bush

The Senate has overwhelmingly passed a new GI bill and billions in new domestic spending as part of the $165 billion Iraq war funding bill pending before Congress.

The 75-22 vote marked a resounding victory for Senate Democrats as well as Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.), who has battled to expand the educational benefits for soldiers who served in Iraq. The vote was the first critical hurdle in a three vote package on the Iraq war funding bill. The measure also included a 13 week extension of unemployment insurance, home heating assistance and other domestic spending add ons. President Bush has threatened to veto the bill, which will top $200 billion with the extra spending. […]

What was most surprising was not that the domestic funding amendment and the GI bill won a majority of the Senate votes, but that half of the Senate’s 49 Republicans bucked President Bush and GOP presidential candidate John McCain to back the dramatically expanded GI bill. Many uncertain Republicans stood in the well of the Senate, taking their time to make a decision. Virtually every GOP senator who is politically vulnerable this year voted for the domestic spending, including Sens. John Sununu of New Hampshire and Roger Wicker of Mississippi.

In all 25 Senate Republicans broke ranks with Bush/McCain to support the measure, giving the bill a veto-proof majority. Even Lieberman voted for it. Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama spoke in favor of the bill and voted for it. McCain, who has repeatedly said he opposes the measure, decided to raise money in California and skipped the vote. All 22 “nay” votes were conservative Republicans.

Here they are:

Alexander (R-TN)
Allard (R-CO)
Barrasso (R-WY)
Bennett (R-UT)
Brownback (R-KS)
Bunning (R-KY)
Burr (R-NC)
Cochran (R-MS)
  Corker (R-TN)
Cornyn (R-TX)
DeMint (R-SC)
Ensign (R-NV)
Enzi (R-WY)
Graham (R-SC)
Grassley (R-IA)

I had enough

Got up this morning, and was greeting with water dripping down and into my new oven. Had Alan check the gutters and they aren't dirty or filled. He checked the roofing tiles, and those are ok too. From what I can see from inside the house, with the water stains in a perfectly straight line, the skylight on is leaking.

Logged onto Hire-A-Hubby and logged in a job repair (aikidomayland isn't tool compatible). Russell, the same guy who fixed my gate, shed and put the dryer on the wall, will be here tomorrow. He says from my description, the skylight has to be removed, the area cleaned/cut back, and replaced. Don't care, don't want my new oven shorting out and tired of the water stains on the ceiling.

You're not changing my mind, so stop wasting my time and yours

Why can't Republicans get it through their heads, that IMO no matter which Democratic candidate gets nominated, EITHER would be better then Sen. McFlipFlop McCane. I have voted the for republicans in the past when they have been the better candidate, but this one? No.... f**king... way.

War, INC

John Cussack plays in a dark comedy, but this time about Commercial War machine.  And outsourcing for private armies.

War torn "Turaqistan" has Tamerlane Corporation (insert Haliburton) there to help rebuild the country in to a democracy after the same corporation helped bomb the country back into the stone age. You see US corporation signs hung on walls everywhere, US businesses, and even the tanks have sponsor signs on them.  Even a "Turaqi" pop star, while in the public eye appears just as vapid as US variety.

And then there are hair splitting gems like this one:

"Since when are there attacks inside Emerald City?"

"Technically that wasn't an attack. That was a bombing"

and the "Don't forget your gift bags. They have a coffee mug, a dessert umbrella, a beer-cuzzi. And an autographed copy, from you know who, of "How I Conquered The World And Worked Out Issues With My Dad"

Do I think this parallels what is currently happening/going to happen in Iraq? Minus the comedy, yes. Corporate greed, special interest groups, and the leeches that are there to get a piece of the action.

I survived

Met Meegan and Daggles and headed to the Kardy for drink. What we didn't know was it was Karaoke night there. Song sung in the key of off.  One big mistake a lot of them do is try to imitate the singer of the original hit. The cat yowls in an attempt to sound like Stevie Nicks assaulted our ears. Then it was Bryan Adams.... just to name a few. I think all dogs within a 50 mile radius tilted their heads and said "WTF was THAT?"

The dinner with aikidomayland's mom was... an event. I am so grateful that Alan went along with is. He has such a way of disarming people, and their verbal barbs with a mixture of candor, and humor. Every times she would start in on me and my diet, Alan would sidetrack her. Oddly enough, she ate more than I did.  *chuckle*

Archery on Sunday, like usual.  It seems that since I have been going to the gym, my #40 is easier for me to draw for more ends. Also getting deadly accurate with it too

Got two model release forms signed too. Might have to get more next week.

Happy Anniversary to the LASER

The first laser
Charles H. Townes
from A Century of Nature: Twenty-One Discoveries that Changed Science and the World
Laura Garwin and Tim Lincoln, editors

When the first working laser was reported in 1960, it was described as "a solution looking for a problem." But before long the laser's distinctive qualities—its ability to generate an intense, very narrow beam of light of a single wavelength—were being harnessed for science, technology and medicine. Today, lasers are everywhere: from research laboratories at the cutting edge of quantum physics to medical clinics, supermarket checkouts and the telephone network.

It has come to my notice

That some people need a life, or a hobby. *rolls eyes*

Health Rant

*sigh* Once again, I feel as if I have to justify my existence.

I have hypothyroidism. It took over 5 yrs before a doctor finally listened and believed me when I gave him a list of my intake and levels of activity, and ordered blood tests after a very intense physical exam. During those 5 yrs, I experienced severe mood swings, depression, patchy memory, dry eyes and skin, an a gawd awful weight gain. I would jokingly say I could look at a plate of air and put on 3 lbs.

Here is the rant part: once again, mother in law started haranguing me about what I eat. Fat this, fat that, fat this, fat that, like I don't fucking KNOW already. She seem to think that all I do is stuff my face with junk all the time.

My daily intake is as follows:

Breakfast 7am: 1 small bowl of NutriGrain with 1% Milk, or 1 small tub of no sugar added/97% fat free fruit yogurt with toast (skim milk has too much lactose in it, and I try to avoid too many types of sugars). Coffee, black no sugar.

Mid morning: either 5 oz of grapes, or equal amount of other fruit, or single slice of whole grain toast with 1/2 tsp of peanut butter.

Lunch: Asian noodles with 5 shrimp/prawns, Low sugar cranberry juice mixed with sugarless lemon soda.

Coffee Break: Another serve of fruit, or since I have been baking, one slice of banana macadamia bread, or 1/3 cup of trail mix (unroasted seeds/nuts).

Dinner: oven roasted chicken, or grilled meat, steamed veggies, and low gi rice (or whole grain pasta side dish, or mashed yams)

I might have a Mini-Magnum icecream for dessert.

Other than slight variations, that is my daily intake. But my mother in law has it in her head that I am shoveling spoonfuls of butter or other FAT FAT FATS into me non-stop. This coming from a woman who slathers anything remotely bread-like with butter. But then she needs the extra weight.

*sigh*

Cats are fun

But not when you are trying to fix something on your computer.

Finally found where I had stashed my pen tablet driver disc, and wanted to install the original one, (not the downloadable package, as it has neutered the adjustment options) but I seem to have run into a wall. No matter how I uninstall, rip out, regedit, and manually strip out any and all materials concerning the downloaded one, I keep getting same error message that the the installed version has to be removed before installing the new one. Seems to be a known issue with both Windows and Mac versions. Right in the middle of trying to fix this, Loki decides to leap onto my keyboard... not once, not twice, but over and over until I shut him into a room.

So, trying to get the Wacom drivers removed, I decided to install the HP Bluetooth dongle, as I wanted to get rid of that ridiculously long USB cable. Oy vey.

Loki is a snuggly cat, he really is, but since the weather has gotten wet and cold, he seems to be attached to me. He has gotten heavy!

Sorry for crappy pic, was taken with equally crappy webcam.

No tartar build up here!

Take a lesson everyone.. we should all brush out teeth after we eat.

You are Julius Caesar. Set during the mid-March in Rome, Julius Caesar tells the story of the conspiracy against and assassination of Julius Caesar. While not considered one of Shakespeare's Histories, Julius Caesar is a fictionalized account of a true story. What your score tells us about you is that you are most likely a complex individual who, like Brutus, may struggle between the conflicting demands of friendship, loyalty, and patriotism. However, also like Brutus, you are undoubtedly someone to whom your friends often go before making a big decision. You are their rock, and they wouldn't think of doing anything without first asking you what you think. However, like Caesar, himself, you tragic flaw, might be that you don't take advice or criticism well even if it is constructive. Take heed to listen to good advice when you hear it, and for gosh sake... beware the ides of March.

Loki Life Lesson #5

The reason I try to keep him in the back yard, behind the closed gate.

The big black dog whose owner didn't bother to tie up in their own yard. Loki showed the good sense to crouch under the shrub and keep an eye on the dog. I chased dog off, spotted Loki all bug-eyed, and waved him over to me. He dashed up to me, his tail almost as floofy as Keito's! Ridgeback kitteh!

Had to print out some model release forms. Two filled out and filed. Have a few more that need to be filled out. Will get that done on Sunday.

Testing monopod

The first picture is of a street map I have on my wall. Taken with the 10x Close up lens filter hand held camera, about .5 cm from the map surface.

Same map, same distance, using monopod.

The difference is amazing.

Got the monopod

Made pretty darned well. Would prefer nylon action rather than plastic, but hey it works. Just one thing I do wish makers of tripods and monopods would do. I do wish they would design the quick release plates for them all the same size. I will be swapping them out depending if I am using the tripod or monopod. Just takes a bit of planning ahead.

Like the fact that the monopod is less than half the weight of the tripod. Will make for easier lugging.

Gym last night

When we got there I asked at the counter how would I go about coming in without aikidomayland, as sometimes, I would prefer to NOT go on his schedule. I also check the route there, and my e-scooter can handle it without a problem. about 12k round trip.

My left calf was on fire again, and even though I know the 'pain' is actually nerve damage, it gets worse and worse to the point I just can't pedal the bike as long as I want to. I pushed up the weights on some of the machines by 10kgs. Except the leg press. Was advised against that, as the object of that is to get the outside of the left leg stronger, not to strain/sprain the ankle again.

The result

Jambalaya! Yum!

Cajun cooking

Yes, making Jambalaya again tonight. And as promised, I kept an eye on the ingredients:
Cooks in the microwave.

3 1/2 Cups long grain rice
2 Tablespoons of tomato paste (optional)
1 small green bell pepper
1 small onion
1 tsp Paprika (or to taste)
1 tsp Cayenne or Chili (again, to taste)
3 Cloves Garlic
4 tablespoons vegetable oil (I prefer corn oil, but use what you have)

750 grams chicken breasts
3 Chorizo Sausages
20 shrimp, peeled (for those who don't like seafood, substitute 100 grams of diced ham)

Steam the chicken and shrimp until done. When cooled, cut into bite sized chunks.

Slice the chorizo into bite sized bits, and pan fry it in a little bit of vegetable oil.

Finely dice both the pepper and the onion. Mince the garlic

In a large glass bowl, put the rice with 4 cups of HOT water, tomato paste, garlic, onion, paprika, cayenne (or chili) and vegetable oil. Stir. Add the chicken, and shrimp, and empty the frying pan of chorizo into the bowl including the seasoned oil now in the bottom of the pan.

Keep about 1 cup of hot water on the side, as you might need extra depending in the power of your microwave. To tell if you need more, go by this scale. You should have 4cms (a little over an inch) of water on the top when you start. It should go down 1 cm with every 6 minute increment. If too much goes, add extra HOT water to the mixture.

Cover and cook for 25 minutes on high, stirring occasionally (I did 6, 6, 6, and then 7). Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Salt and pepper to taste. Yum!

Now the reason I do this in the microwave is that the flavors infuse better, and there is better temperature control, and less water loss. It can be done on the stove top, but you would end up standing over it the entire time. On stove top, same recipe, with a bit more water.

You can cut this recipe in half for on one meal, but it takes just as long to cook up a double batch as it does a single, and it tastes so much better the next day after the flavors have had time to blend.

Fair warning.. it does have a bite.

Monday, partially disguised at Tuesday.

Got a phone call from Aussie Air Express. Seems the braintrust I spoke to yesterday screwed up my name, the shipment information and a few other things, but luckily did get my phone number right. Had nice conversation with local office. Since the idjit got the info wrong, the delivery won't be today, but tomorrow. She was very apologetic about the other person. Wasn't her fault, but the apology was appreciated.

So, got my errands done today.

Posted by Request :)

Who needs the gym

I have been, for the past 30+ minutes, scrubbing, 'Enjo-ing', the kitchen. Amazing, just with cold water, and Enjo glove and cloth. And again, if aikidomayland can tell me what I threw out, I will agree we needed it.

Have one section of it left to do, the 'bar' dividing the dining area from the kitchen.

It's Monday... what did I expect

Today, I have been working photographs, and those who have visited me at my house knows where my computer is set up. Looking out at the driveway/carport so I know if anyone comes up.

I go out to the mail box at 12:22 (yes, I checked the time before I went) and opened the letterbox to find a "Unable to deliver" yellow card from Australia Express Post. The time of attempted delivery was stated ast 12:19. My front door is open, and no one came up the driveway. I called the number on it, and got the usual serving of bullshit. I will scrap my plans for tomorrow, and hang around here waiting. :-/

Alan came home from TAFE, and he was pissed off. According to the driveer, it seems that his student concession card, the one that gets (or should I say USED to get) him a lower bus fare is no longer 'good enough'. Since when? He used it Friday without a problem. If there was a policy change, would have been nice to have known. Will be calling TransPerth about this.

ETA: I called them. Seems that they have changed their methods. You MUST have a smart rider card now. Would have been nice to know back in JANUARY! (grrr)

Today at archery

I brought my Lumix, with an assortment of FX filters. Or as one of the people there said "What people used to use before PhotoShop". I was experimenting with them. They are a lot of fun, and create some interesting photographs.

Sun through the Gum Tree leaves, UV Filter, with Rainbow Burst FX Filter

This is just a 'quick and dirty' use of the rainbow starburst filter. Would have liked to do a few more, but there was this very umm energetically chatty kid at the archery range would would just NOT stop talking. Satisfied with the result. Can't wait to do more with other subjects.

Happy discovery

Seems all the FX, Close up, and lighting filters for my Lumix fit on the 300D.

*Chuckling here*

Someone thought I had Photoshopped Loki's pictures, grey scaled him. I sent her a bunch of other pictures of him (small ones) showing how his fur tends to reflect and 'adopt' the hues around him. When he was on a pink pillow, his fur was tinged pink.. When he was up the gum tree, his fur was tinted green and brown hues

And here he is standing next to an orange brick face wall and paving (he discovered the skinks and lizards like to sun themselves near the downspout, and hide behind it. I think he is channeling Affy):

There be orange tinting there.

Happy Fit (not a Disney movie)

The other jeans I ordered from Make Your Own Jeans* arrived. I washed them to get that 'new smell' out of them when they arrived.  They fit perfectly, no binding, no cutting in, no sagged or droop in the wrong places.  Time to bag up the old stuff and give it to Good Sammies.

*They were/are currently swamped with orders, so if you get their maintenance page, check back.
